Case Study: Imara Jones website and logo
Imara Jones is an award-winning journalist, thought leader, content creator, and founder of TransLash Media, a platform and brand that tells trans stories to save trans lives. After working with TransLash Media in 2019 to create the responsive (all screens-optimized) translash.org website and logo refresh, DCAP MEDIA continued collaborating with Imara on her own personal brand and digital presence needs in 2020.
Up until 2020, Imara had been using a Tumblr page as her website. DCAP MEDIA worked with her between August - December 2020 to create a brand & content strategy for her responsive portfolio website in alignment with her personal brand goals, as well as developing the first Imara Jones logo to be utilized across print and digital. Design choices were rooted in Imara’s own color and style preferences that were discussed during a series of brand discovery calls and design revision rounds. The imarajones.com website was designed and built by DCAP MEDIA in collaboration with Melissa Ulto, a queer Latina, who also provided similar services for translash.org.
Summary of services & deliverables scope for ImaraJones.com:
Logo design: discovery calls, revision rounds, custom font, design files in multiple formats (full color, b&w), and brand one-sheet with style guide;
Content strategy: planning sessions with recommendations on content scope and UX for the first iteration of the website (what to prioritize for launch);
Website design: discovery and planning calls, revision rounds, design files and file templates in multiple formats for all site sections, and a helpful website guide with instructions and usage rules;
Website development: ImaraJones.com was built utilizing Wordpress, a custom-built theme based on Imara’s style preferences, and the Elementor plugin, which was fully configured for Imara’s specific content needs. The site was designed to make most content updates and maintenance easy to do without any coding knowledge, as well as the ability to add and remove content modules with ease. This fully empowers Imara and her team to make needed website changes in real-time without having to pay a developer additional fees, which makes this website scalable and cost efficient. This website was also designed with the capability to meet web accessibility standards for all screens, and includes Mailchimp newsletter integration with a custom subscribe module overlay.
Web hosting setup & configuration, and domain migration management: When Imara ran into challenges hosting her new website with her previous hosting & domain provider, DCAP MEDIA took care of it: recommending a new web hosting and domain registration solution, migrating ImaraJones.com initial built from one hosting platform to another, coordinating ImaraJones.com domain transfer, and providing Imara with timely updates as progress was made. As of January 4, 2020, DCAP MEDIA is also helping Imara to migrate all past imara@imarajones.com emails to be archived and accessible through her new hosting platform, along with setting up new email services through her new hosting platform.
